Another day on the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek in Nepal. It just gets harder and harder. Trekking in Nepal is not easy but it helps when you are sharing the misery with 14 other people and have wonderful Sherpas, always ready to give a hand.

Ships coming back from the Antarctic, rounding South America from Santiago, Chile and preparing for new departures. A constant bustle of passengers coming and going in this little town that resembles Breckenridge, Colorado.

Shopping for souvenirs, wandering around, eating, visting the Tierre Del Fuego National Park, trekking, skiing (in the winter) or even zip-lining...quite a bit to do.

The Festival began with a fast hike up the hill at altitude trying not to miss any part of the Tongren Aboriginal Festival held once a year. This video highlights Shaman #1 in a trance, pawing the ground and making horse sounds. Offerings and prayers in the temple, intricate dance routines. A "not for tourist" event - that is becoming more popular every year.

The Yu Gardens (full name - Yu Yuan Gardens) were built in 1559 in typical Chinese fashion. Halls, pavilions, little bridges over small ponds. The inner section has turned into one huge bazaar and is one of Shanghai's most popular destinations for tourists (including us).

When you go, definitely try the steamed dumplings (xiaolong bao) and watch out for 3rd degree burns. The extremely hot soup inside squirts out when you bite into them, and don't forget to dip in vinegar. Sounds awful...tastes wonderful. Yu Gardens is always good for a fun time...

An elephant walking down the street, sidewalk barbershop, boats on the river, or just sit and enjoy a beer at one of the many sidewalk cafes.
<media:keywords>cambodia, Asia, destination, travel, event, phnom penh, adventure, river, sightseeing</media:keywords>

North Ethiopia: The Gelada Baboons Simien Mountains National Park

Endemic to Ethiopia, it's worth putting up with gritty Debark to see the furry, lion-like Gelada Baboons. An armed guard and local park scout must accompany you into the National Park where the over 6,000 Geladas go about their business, digging up roots, and procreating more little baboons.

It's not unusual for one male to have at least five harems. That would keep anyone busy...

It's easy to walk all around Singapore with its great signage. Bargain hard at all the stalls and definitely visit a Hawker's Center...the original "food court." Each food stand is licensed and immaculately clean. This is your chance to try Pig's soup, pig's trotters, snake or good old fried rice. Eat your way into a food coma....and have fun doing it!

It's becoming easier and easier to train around China. Especially on the speedy bullet train between Hangzhou ("Han-joe") and Shanghai, only 1:15. And then...once you're in Shanghai...shop 'til you drop.

Fenshine Fashion on West Nanjing Road is one of the many places to buy knock-offs and/or really nice clothes, shoes, handbags that aren't name brands. I don't go there looking for fake Vuitton's or Gucci's...everything is so darn cheap, shopping is irresistible. Go, see for yourself...and bargain hard!

If you are ever in Buenos Aires, Argentina on a Sunday, don't miss the San Telmo Flea Market in the Plaza Dorrego. Antiques, souvenirs, junk, clothes (both old and new), street musicians, entertainers, and on this particular Sunday, the vendors were dressed in costumes.

You can always count on San Telmo for a good time.

The nomads of the Eastern Tibet Plateau still live off the land, traveling with their yaks and black yak wool tents from summer home to winter home and back again. Yak dung (or poop) is formed into yak patties and used for fuel. This nomad Mother used her bare hands to pop additional yak patties in the fire when needed and move the burning coals around. Spinning yak fur, milking yaks...a very hard life.

Heading on a 14-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, we had only one day to explore Kathmandu. A noisy, busy, touristy area, it was almost overwhelming. Touts, beggers, bicycle rickshaws, and taxis sharing the very narrow streets with pedestrians. Pizza, western food, Nepali, Indian, Tibetan...you name the food...they've got it. A big plus? It's completely safe to walk around...day or night. And? Great shopping!

<media:keywords>Nepal, Asia, Kathmandu, food, trekkingtibet, restaurants, hotels, travel, adventure, scenic</media:keywords>

Cambodia: Sihanoukville on The Gulf of Thailand

Every time I heard the crack of a whip coming down on a woman, I cringed. And then, they walked around bleeding as if it was nothing. ( It probably helped that they were completely drunk but still....)

By the way, the bull "jumpee" must accomplish his task naked. ex-Marine (husband, Steve) was obsessing over..."what if a horn caught his testicles..." A painful thought. The Hamer man must make three complete jumps and the tribe kept removing bulls to make each pass a little easier. This ceremony was certainly something that I'll never see again in my lifetime...."unique" isn't adequate to describe it.

The Mursi pastoralists most famous tradition is the lip plates worn by the women. The girls make a slit in their lower lip upon reaching sexual maturity and begin inserting small clay plates. The plates become increasingly larger over time until the lip is completely distended. I don't know what sight disturbed me the most. The plate in a lip or the lip just hanging down without a plate in it. The women and men also practice scarification. The Mursi vlllage was not a pleasant experience. The Mursi's grab, poke and do everything possible to get you to take their photo. Don't even think of trying to get away without paying unless you want a little machete and/or spear practice.

I never imagined the Lemaire Channel passage would be so breathtaking. All the passengers were up before the crack of dawn to witness the passage (...Oh, that's right...there is no crack of dawn. It's light for more than 23 hours a day...) Spectacular, spectacular, spectacular.

And then the ever-popular penguins on Petermann Island... Watch and learn...

Central Hua Hin has a three-mile long white sand beach with lounges, chairs, umbrellas and food for sale along the entire distance. Sellers carrying food and items for sale, horses and ponies to ride, banana boats, jet skis and windsurfing. The entire beach is open to the public and is crowded with tourists enjoying themselves. Either stay in this area or travel up and down the coast for more accommodations and beaches.

Hua Hin is more compact and less expensive than Phuket and other fly-to destinations in Thailand. Only 2-1/2 to 3 hours from Bangkok, a fun and easy to get to resort.

The Hamer Jumping of the Bull Ceremony is very unusual. A young man cannot marry until he succeeds in jumping a line of bulls, ranging from 12-20. This is not a "for tourists" ceremony. If tourists happen to be in the area when one is scheduled (lucky us, there was one today), you do have to pay for the privilege of attending and watching. Around 150 Birr ($16 U.S.) and then the money is used for the actual wedding.

Part II to follow in another video and read all the gory details in a few months on my website....http://www.TravelsWithSheila.

There are a few digital studios in Phnom Penh where you can transform yourself into a Khmer princess or Apsara in just one hour For $18.00. If you have the time, look for one and enjoy the transformation.

Rechannel the '60's with false eyelashes, hair pieces and heavy pancake make-up. A fun experience...

We had no idea there were Red Pandas until a visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Institute in Chengdu. A Red Panda resembles a big and more colorful raccoon. The cutest things. And the Giant Panda kindergarten and nursery was completely absorbing. We could have stood there all day watching them.

A wonderful habitat for these highly endangered animals. Visit... and enjoy these unbearably adorable Pandas.
